Course Overview

Exposure to hazardous materials leads to thousands of injuries and hundreds of fatalities each year. Yet, as this course shows, food processing and handling workers can prevent many HAZMAT emergencies once they are aware of the hazards of the various materials they work with.

Making it clear that the first step in avoiding any hazard is being aware of it, this course introduces employees to OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard and the GHS as they pertain to container labels. Upon completing the course, workers will understand the GHS system and its benefits, explain the information found on a GHS container label, and be able to identify a material’s physical properties, health effects, and environmental impact by looking at its GHS pictogram.

Teach this course so all food processing and handling employees know where and how to quickly access the GHS container label information they need to minimize hazardous materials accidents and injuries throughout the workplace.
