Course Overview

In 1983, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) established HAZCOM, the Hazard Communication Standard. This gave workers the legal right to know which hazardous substances were in their work environment, and how to handle them safely. The most recent update to HAZCOM was in 2024, which gave workers more access to information about hazardous substances. This safety training program explains the updated HAZCOM requirements for construction workers.

The three main sources of information for workers are Safety Data Sheets (SDS), container labels, and a company’s Hazard Communication Program. SDS are provided by Hazmat suppliers, and include the risks associated with the substance, precautions to take when handling the substance, first aid steps for workers who are exposed, and how to respond when there is a spill.
Viewers also learn how hazardous substances enter the body – through skin contact, inhalation, and ingestion – and how to prevent exposure through using PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) and safe storage.

Take this training course to learn how to stay safe when hazardous materials are at the job site.
