Best Selling HAZMAT Training Courses

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) defines a hazardous material as, “a substance or material… which has been determined by the secretary of transportation to be capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety and property when transported in commerce.”   The handling of hazardous materials is exceptionally important in preventing serious incidents such as chemical spills and fires.
DOT developed a set of regulations in regards to preventing these types of accidents.  These regulations address the proper safety procedures in the handling and transportation of hazardous materials.  The common name for these is, Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR).  Revisions to the HMR are done regularly for optimum comprehension.
The DOT HAZMAT HMR affects all HAZMAT employers and employees.  Because of the importance of proper training in safe handling and transportation of hazardous materials, the HAZMAT employee definition is broad; this includes anyone who directly affects the material’s transport.  All employees must participate in training.  The training covers five specific areas:

  1. General awareness
  2. Function specific training
  3. Safety training
  4. Security awareness training
  5. In-depth security training

These areas of training help to: increase awareness of potential dangers of transporting and handling HAZMAT materials, demonstrate how to work with these materials safely, and enhance the security measures taken for hazardous materials during transportation.
