Prevent Back Injuries with Proper Lifting Techniques

Are you experiencing back pain after shoveling snow? Maybe lifting that water jug at work gave you back pain. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2009 there were almost 200,000 reported work-related back injuries.
Back injuries most often occur over-time, due to improper lifting and body movements. The way you lift and bend may be causing you pain, and that last shovel-full of snow might just be “the straw that breaks the camel’s back.” Okay maybe it won’t break your back, but it very well could be the movement putting you on the couch for several days.

Use stretching, posture relief and safe lifting techniques to prevent injuring your back. The Video On Demand course, “Back Safety: Stepback for Safety Series” presents these methods for using back safety methods at work.
Make a conscious effort to use safe lifting practices and other safety measures to avoid painful back injuries.
