Recent Study Shows Results of Inclusion Training in the Workplace

Today we have a guest post from Joel Lesko, Producer, Director and Owner at SunShower Learning. Mastery has published a number of SunShower Learning training programs on its mobile-friendly courseware platform.
Joel provided news of a recent scientific study that validates the results of one of SunShower’s most popular titles, “Ouch! That Stereotype Hurts.” This course covers techniques for combating demeaning comments and stereotypes. This program points out how these behaviors “undermine our ability to create an inclusive workplace where employees are welcomed, treated with respect and are able to do their best work.”
This course aims to help learners meet the following learning objectives:

  • Recognize the impact of stereotypes and biased statements, even when casually said.
  • Identify the most common reasons people sit silent in the face of bias and stereotypes.
  • Enhance skills for speaking up against stereotypes without blame or guilt.

Here is what Joel had to say about a recent study done on people who trained with the Ouch! Program:
Research Shows Ouch! Makes a Difference
New research validates the experience of trainers and trainees who use Ouch! skills every day.
A recent scientific study at the University of Cincinnati showed that 82% of Ouch! trainees had already used the Ouch! skills in their workplace interactions and personal lives within 3 months.
The study also documented that trainees had a statistically significant increase in their awareness of bias and stereotypes and a lasting positive change in their comfort and confidence to speak up, all due to using the Ouch! skills. Furthermore, the study showed that trainees were more likely in the future to speak up against stereotypes or bias they encountered at work, home, and in social settings.
When you review training programs, it’s common to see testimonials and quotes that rave about how powerful or useful they are. Ouch! has many testimonials from users in the field, and now, what sets Ouch! a part is a significant study demonstrating the lasting impact of the program on trainees.
The Ouch! program can be used as a part of your new employee training, ongoing diversity training initiative, or even as a simple conversation starter. Warning – once you invite people to speak up against bias, your culture will change… towards more respect and innovation.
MasteryTCN has published “Ouch! That Stereotype Hurts” and “Ouch! Your Silence Hurts.” Both of these courses aim to give employees the tools necessary to stop discriminatory and stereotyping in its tracks. These courses would make a great addition to your training program regarding diversity and harassment.
